Reviews:
(From RiffRock.com):
"From rough and tumble Minneapolis come The Spittin’ Cobras
with their self titled debut. This three piece describes themselves
as a cross between the country of Willie Nelson and Waylon
Jennings with the crunch of Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer.
Judging by the six songs (plus a bonus track) on this disc,
what you get with that combination of influences is shitkicker
rock. It’s a style The Spittin’ Cobras have down
pat. They aren’t quite as heavy as Sasquatch or as bluesy
as Amplified Heat, but those two are good benchmarks for The
Spittin’ Cobras’ sound. They’ve got good
ol’ boy riffs, soaked in distortion (and most like whiskey
as well), and clean, booming vocals, with a rhythm section
that’s locked together. All of the songs have a good
sense of groove, with the standouts being “Burned,” “Whore
of the Castle,” and “Think Twice.”
I can’t think of anything to gripe about with this album – it’s
loud and fun, the way it should be. It’s a hell of a
debut, and the more established bands playing the same style
ought to look over their shoulder, as there’s some fierce
competition coming up. " |
